The History of the Los Angeles Animal Services Department

Throughout the history of Los Angeles, people have kept some pretty exotic animals as pets. "Exotic"  generally refers to the various animals like cheetahs, mokeys, or giant snakes---animals that are imported into LA.  LA has its own list of incredible wild animals, like mountain lions, bobcats and bears, but when celebrity status and conspicuous consumption are at work, it can result in some interesting new residents.  The Department of animal services has long had to deal with such animals and the archives have evidence of a range of such cases.
